10th and Washington
May and June are when summer returns to Golden, Colorado, along with the Saturday Farmers' Market, classic car events, community bike rides, and street parties. It's when many downtown restaurants open their outdoor dining areas, and the sidewalks fill with shoppers.
May is also when the water begins to rise in Clear Creek, and roiling rapids at the Clear Creek Whitewater Park thrill kayak enthusiasts who flock to Golden at this time of year to watch and engage in this unique sport. Flows in Clear Creek peak in late May and typically remain high and fast throughout June. Temperatures in Golden rise from an average high and low of 67° and 39° at the beginning of May to 87° and 57° at the end of June. Water temperatures in Clear Creek are typically in the low 50's, so you'll need a wet suit or lots of courage to go in the water.
In May and June, historic downtown's First Friday shopping nights expand into full-fledged evening street fairs, with Washington Avenue closed to vehicular traffic to make room for pedestrians, beer sales and food stands. The Buffalo Rose, Golden Hotel and Pandoro's Bakery regularly host outdoor musicians to be enjoyed by patrons and passersby alike.
Meanwhile, farther from downtown both children and adults enjoy the amenities at Golden's Splash Water Park and Fossil Trace Golf Course. The Jefferson County Fairgrounds also hosts a variety of springtime shows and activities.
