Golden's municipal golf course, Fossil Trace Golf Club, opened in 2003, and is locally and nationally recognized as one of the finest golf courses in the Denver metropolitan area and the Rocky Mountain region. The 12th hole, with its fascinating fossils, was named the most fun 12th hole in America by Golf Digest Magazine in 2011.
The clubhouse is home to the Three Tomatoes Steakhouse, open year round for golfers and the public. The clubhouse has a ballroom and meeting rooms, and in the off season the banquet and dining facilities are available for weddings or business parties.
